Anthony (“Tony”) Vieira was raised in the small town of Jacksonville, Illinois, just down the road from Abraham Lincoln’s New Salem Village. His “Grandma Vieira” was a Christian woman with extraordinary faith in God, living a life of integrity and selflessness in the midst of great poverty. She had 13 children, and she loved and gave of herself until the day she died. She is a special reminder to Tony of someone who understood what is important in life.

Tony’s mother raised five children of her own, and for over 40 years she taught and cared for many handicapped children through her work at the Illinois School for the Blind. His father, now retired, was a respected, hardworking laborer who worked as a plumber and later as a successful industrial plumbing, heating, and air conditioning contractor. During Tony’s teenage years, when he wasn’t playing basketball, he remembers working alongside his father, helping him do everything a plumbing, heating, and air conditioning man does – from running water and sewer mains and tearing out heating and air conditioning systems to pouring and breaking out concrete. In later years, because of his life’s work in the trades, Tony’s father developed asbestosis.

Mr. Vieira has a heart for the hurting. These are among the many experiences that have shaped his passion for vindicating the rights of injured people.

Diligently Pursuing Truth and Justice

Mr. Vieira received his law degree from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, Illinois, where he attended on an academic scholarship. He served in the United States Navy as a Judge Advocate General. He spent three-and-a-half-years on active duty trying cases as a prosecutor and also as defense counsel. His experience includes working as the Officer-in-Charge of a Navy Legal Assistance office, where he helped sailors, marines, soldiers, and their families with civil legal problems. While in the Navy, Mr. Vieira received various awards for his trial representation, including an award from the U.S. Department of Justice for his outstanding work in a series of rape cases.

After he left the U.S. Navy, Mr. Vieira worked for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office as a Deputy District Attorney. His experience included cases that received national media attention, including the prosecution of the retrial of the Erik and Lyle Menendez case, the “Wrong Way Murder Case,” and the “P9 Witness Murders.” He spent four years as a member of the elite Hard-Core Gang Unit, where he concentrated on conspiracy prosecutions involving murder, attempted murder, and robbery. Mr. Vieira was recognized through numerous awards for his work, including commendations from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and the City of Pasadena.

Mr. Vieira’s experience also includes several years working for one of the largest plaintiff’s firms in California, where he led multiple jury trials and helped many families recover millions of dollars in damages because their husbands and fathers and grandfathers were injured by asbestos and other toxic products.

As an experienced trial attorney , Mr. Vieira continues to work "of counsel " for other law firms helping clients who have been seriously injured and/or who have lost a loved one in a wrongful death situation. Some of Mr. Vieira's most recent cases include serious personal injury from toxic exposures, including mesothelioma, asbestosis and asbestos related lung cancer cases.

Mr. Vieira also enjoys mentoring and instructing other attorneys. He is an instructor with the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and has served as a trial skills instructor at the University of California, Hastings Law School, and College of Advocacy. Mr. Vieira is also a degree candidate in the California Western LLM program in Trial Advocacy.

Mr. Vieira is currently admitted to the California and Illinois State Bars. He is a member of the Consumer Attorneys of California, Trial Lawyers for Public Justice, the Bar Association of San Francisco, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Christian Legal Society, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

Anthony Vieira currently lives in Southern California with his wife Amy, his son Luke, and his daughter Tania.
